The recent, tragic death of actor Paul Walker brought to light his extensive charity work, and with good reason, but it set me to thinking. Surely he wasn't alone, was he? Surely there are other (and perhaps even many other) actors and actresses who share Walker's passion for giving back, so I decided to do a bit of checking. We all know Andrea Parker for her pretty face and lovely smile, to say nothing of her as an exquisite villain. For her various roles in popular television programs and movies, but when you dig a little deeper, you quickly discover that this talented actress is far more than a pretty face.
Andrea Parker (who sadly lost her first husband to cancer), has been an avid supporter of the "My Good Friend" organization, which is a group that seeks to help ease the pain and suffering of cancer afflicted teens. Related to this, she is also a supporter of the National Hospice Palliative Care Organization, which is an agency that cares for people near the end of their lives. Most people don't really even know what Hospice care is unless they have a family member that needs it, and part of this group's charter (in addition to providing such care) is to raise awareness about it.
It doesn't stop there though. In addition to these, she has teamed up with Michael J. Fox to support the foundation named after him, and their bid to help find a cure for Parkinson's Disease, and she is an avid supporter of Project Angel Food. Project Angel Food's mission centers on help for those who have HIV, with the organization providing fellowship, counseling, and meals, as needed to those with the disease.
The glitz, the glamour, and the buzz about their latest hot projects. These are the reasons we talk about our favorite celebrities, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, isn't it nice when you find out that behind all the glamour and photo ops...behind what we see during the Red Carpet events, there's a lot of substance, heart and soul behind the sea of pretty faces. In Andrea Parker's case, her beauty very definitely runs more than skin deep.
