Every so often, a tennis player comes through who gets us all very excited, showing a huge amount of potential at a young age, making us think that we just might have the new superstar of the sport. Unfortunately though, many of these young, promising stars never quite go on to reach their full potential and dominate the sport like we would have expected them to.
Just take the Serbian tennis star Ana Ivanovic, for example. Yes, Ana is among the top tennis players in the world but she has not quite lived up to that early potential we saw in her when she was just coming through. When Ana made it into the French Open final in 2007, followed by the Wimbledon semi-final the same year, then the Australian Open final in 2008, before winning the French Open in 2008, we really thought we had a new superstar on our hands.
Unfortunately for Ana Ivanovic though, things have not quite gone to plan since then, not managing to make it to a Grand Slam final since her French Open victory in 2008. Ana will be hoping that 2016 will be her year to finally get her hands on another, long-awaited Grand Slam title, starting with the Australian Open this month.
Ana Ivanovic has had a fairly easy start to the 2016 Australian Open, beating Australian Tammi Patterson 6-2 6-3 in the first round, before then beating Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 6-3 in the second round, setting up a third round match with big hitting American Madison Keys. It will definitely be her biggest test of the tournament so far but Ana definitely has what it takes to go far this year.
Do we think Ana Ivanovic has what it takes to win the Australian Open 2016? Yes, we do, but she is going to need to be at the very top of her game and need a little bit of luck on top. Good luck Ana, we are cheering for you!
