There has been talk of a new Jumanji movie for many, many years now but, following the passing of the legendary Robin Williams, it was thought that any plans for a new Jumanji film would be put to rest. However, it was recently announced that actor Dwayne Johnson was going to star in the Jumanji remake, which did not go down well with fans of the original film.
One disgruntled fan moaned, "How on Earth can they even think about making a new Jumanji movie. This shows a complete lack of respect for Robin Williams and I for one will not do the same by watching. Disgusting." Meanwhile, another added, "Shocked and disappointed by the news of a new Jumanji movie. Robin Williams is a legend and his movies should be left alone."
While Dwayne Johnson has admitted that he can understand where these fans are coming from, as he too is a big fan of Robin Williams, he did also state that the new Jumanji film will honor the memory of Robin Williams, will do him proud, and will win over the haters. Dwayne posted a long message about the movie, trying to convince these fans that they will not be disappointed.
Part of the message read, "An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of 'Alan Parrish' will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud."
It will certainly be interesting to see just how they go about making the new Jumanji movie, but we are not convinced that it will come close to what the original movie was. This is certainly a film that we believe should be left alone and we have no doubt that this is going to flop.
Jumanji is set to hit the big screen on July 28, 2017.
