We have to admit that we do find it amazing that people decide to cast actors in roles which requires them to use a different accent, when they could simply use an actor who already has the right accent for the role. We have seen some movies being ruined because of the awful accents, although there are some stars that have the ability to really pull it off.
British actor Ewan McGregor has been working in the acting industry for many years now and using a number of different accents, including the one he has to use for his new movie American Pastoral. Ewan has been talking about his accent in the movie, revealing that he would listen to tapes of Ray Liotta as inspiration before each take.
McGregor explained, "I just have a great dialect coach and I have a particular actor that I listened to before the takes. I listened to a bit of Ray Liotta before each take. He’s just got the right accent, he’s from there. He was the right age for me. It’s part of our job as creative people to learn about something if we don’t know about it. I’ve been lots of places where I haven’t been, in movies – outer space, down a toilet."
As well as starring in the movie, Ewan McGregor has also been on directing duties for American Pastoral, with the screenplay being written by John Romano, adapted from the Philip Roth novel. American Pastoral is set to hit the big screen on October 28 in the US and on November 11 in the UK.
