It is fair to say that the DC movie universe has been struggling for years now and that their recent projects, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, have not exactly done much to win over any of the pessimistic fans. Which means that it is now over to Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman to try to show that DC do have what it takes to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the character we are most intrigued about is Aquaman.
One of the biggest talking points about the movie is, how is Jason Momoa going to talk underwater in Aquaman? Well, many fans have been giving their own views and opinions on what they think should happen, and now, director James Wan has revealed what he plans to do with the character, insisting that he is going to see what Zack Snyder does with Aquaman in the Justice League movie and then take it from there.
During a recent interview, Wan explained, "Yeah, speech bubbles, right?! Maybe it'll be speech bubbles. [Laughs] I never thought about that... Words come out of the bubbles. It's brilliant! That's a cool visual. It would be very literal, yeah! No, here's the thing I always say, if you have water in your lungs, like these characters do, there's no air bubble. So I don't know... I just think in my movie, I want to kind of create... I love the idea of underwater speaking but with a real sort of sonic, aquatic quality to it. So there's this sort of aquatic, almost sonar/whale thing."
He added, "Even though it's in a human language, there’s this slight sort of underlay to it, this ping to it, which I think would be interesting for us to design from a sound design perspective. Yeah, it will be fun. Also, Zack has some ideas that he'll be doing in Justice League. Listen, I'll be honest, in some ways, JL will be an experiment for me to see what works and what may not work as well. And then kind of go, okay... Here’s the great thing, with all these superhero movies, you watch from one movie to another, and they always sort of slightly change things along the way. You kind of have to do that to make what's best for your film."
Jason Momoa will appear as Aquaman in Justice League Part One, which will hit the big screen on November 17, 2017 in both the US and the UK, before then starring in the Aquaman solo movie, which opens on July 27, 2018, and then returning for Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019. We cannot wait to see what they do with the character.
