While there are certain negatives about being a global superstar, such as regularly having your privacy invaded, there is a way of getting round this. More and more celebrities are buying private islands, in a bid to get away from the public eye, and here, we take a look at some of them.
Being a mega rich movie star certainly helps you to be able to afford your very own private island, which is exactly what Johnny Depp decided to do. Johnny Depp owns the island of Little Hall's Pond Cay, which is situated in the Bahamas and boasts no fewer than six of its very own beaches.
Another movie star with their own private island is Mel Gibson, who decided to invest in a tropical island back in 2005. Mel purchased his island, which is located in Fiji, for $15m and it is one of the largest privately owned islands in the South Pacific at 5,400 acres.
One man who has probably seen the best deal, when it comes to buying a private island, is Virgin's Richard Branson, who paid just a few hundred thousand for his island back in 1978. Richard Branson now hires out the resort on his island, which anyone can book, as long as you have the $50,000 a night needed.
