There were quite a few raised eyebrows when it was announced that veteran actress Monica Bellucci had been cast to play a Bond Girl in the new James Bond movie Spectre, with the 50-year-old actress becoming the oldest Bond Girl in history. However, director Sam Mendes made it perfectly clear that age was not even on his mind when casting the role, as he was after someone who could bring depth and seductive presence to the character.
With that said, there have been plenty of people who were still surprised to have Monica Bellucci as a Bond Girl, including the actress herself, who recently spoke about being one of the new Bond Girls in Spectre. Monica joked that, due to the fact that she is now 50 years old, she is actually too old to play a Bond Girl and should actually be referred to as a Bond Lady or a Bond Woman.
Bellucci was chatting to the Guardian, when she told them, "I can?t say I'm a Bond girl because I'm too mature to be a Bond girl. I say Bond lady; Bond woman." As well as that, the actress also previously said, "If I would have done it at the age of 20 or 30 it would have been more conventional, at 50 there's a more respectful way of looking at women." That is one way to look at it.
Monica Bellucci is not the only Bond Girl we are going to have in Spectre though, as Sam Mendes has also cast a more conventional Bond Girl, with 30-year-old actress Lea Seydoux also appearing in the movie. Daniel Craig will once again play James Bond in Spectre, which is set to hit the big screen on October 26 in the UK and November 6 in the US.
