MMA legend Randy Couture is not only a well-respected and champion fighter in his sport; he is also a successful Hollywood actor. Randy has been acting since 2003 and still continues to make film. Couture no longer fights professionally and has more time to dedicate to his movie career.
Traditionally, many fighters do not necessarily make the jump into acting. Many professional wrestlers such as the Rock (Duane Johnson) and Hulk Hogan (Terry Gene Bollea) are two individuals who have been successful at this type of transition. However, professional boxers and MMA fighters haven’t been known to become actors in Hollywood. Mike Tyson has appeared in some films and so has former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield but once again they are the exception rather than the rule.
The truth is that most professional fighters could not concentrate on their careers while trying to act in films. Sooner or later they would have to give up one in order to become effective for the other. This is one reason as to why former running back Jim Brown left the NFL. He wanted to make a greater commitment to his acting career.
Randy Couture is in his 50s and has officially retired from fighting in 2011. Since Couture has been acting since 2003 he had time to gain some experience as an actor. Now that he is retired from fighting he can spend his time performing in films. He is featured in major motion pictures such as the Expendables franchise with Sylvester Stallone and he is expected to be given more leading roles in the coming years.
