There have been a lot of complaints over the years, that there have not been enough strong female lead roles over the years, leading to Hollywood actresses not being given the same amount of interesting and exciting roles as men. However, in recent years, that issue has started to get addressed, with a lot more promising roles for actresses being brought into the acting industry of late.
It was recently confirmed that there is going to be a big screen adaptation of the hit anime series Ghost in the Shell, which focuses on a strong female lead, much to the delight of many actresses in the industry. With that said though, a new issue has emerged following the announcement that the hugely talented actress Scarlett Johansson has been cast in the lead role for the Ghost in the Shell movie.
While Scarlett Johansson is a guaranteed box office draw and one of the biggest and best actresses in the business right now, many people feel that the role should have gone to an Asian actress, since the lead character in the Ghost in the Shell series is Japanese. Some have even claimed that, at the very least, an Asian-American actress should have been cast in the role.
Even with disgruntled fans and petitions being made, we cannot imagine that DreamWorks SKG or director Rupert Sanders will be swayed on the subject and we are sure that Scarlett Johansson will definitely play the lead role in the Ghost in the Shell movie. Ghost in the Shell has a release date currently set for April 14, 2017, so a lot can happen between now and then.
Do you think Scarlett Johansson should be replaced by an Asian actress in Ghost in the Shell?
