Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin and American Pie star Jason Briggs have agreed to voice characters in a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series for Nickelodeon. Sean Astin is set to voice dagger wielding Raphael, while Jason Briggs will voice the leader Leonardo.
Donatello is set to be played by voice actor Rob Paulsen, who voiced the character Raphael in the first Turtles film. The fourth and final turtle, Michelangelo is due to be voiced by Greg Cipes. Sean Astin revealed his delight at being involved in the project.
Astin said, "I was too old for them. My wife's brother's son - when he was 4 years old, he was sleeping in the Turtles sleeping bags, wearing the Turtles clothes, playing with the Turtles toys, watching the Turtles show. I remember we took him to DisneyWorld, and we got a private audience with the Turtles. I thought he was gonna have a heart attack. He was seized with terror and awe."
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is set to use CGI graphics, opposed to the regular cartoon drawings that were used in the original series. The new series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will premiere this summer and is set to consist of 26 episodes, each lasting around 30 minutes.
