Sylvester Stallone is a Hollywood star who has no difficulty admitting when he makes a mistake and he did so without reservation to Crave Online when he talked about the "horrible miscalculation" made with "Expendables 3" (Air Herald.com -December 17).
The film was panned by critics and fans with the crowded ensemble cast of action stars and the considerably tamer PG-13 action. In addition to this mistake the film's box office potential was sabotaged by a high-quality copy of the movie being leaked online ahead of the release which likely led to many fans watching the PG-13 action-adventure flick at their homes.
However, the actor who has become an international star in large part because of his violent "Rocky" and "Rambo" franchises made it clear in the interview with Crave Online that the Expendables franchise is returning to its original blueprint which is R-rated movies, news that has likely provided many smiles to the faces of his Expendables fans.
The next "Expendables" movie might also see a 'darker' side of Sylvester Stallone emerge. During the candid interview he noted his reluctance to kill off the "Expendables" cast members because fans identify with them but considering the criticism "Expendables 3" received and the difficulty viewers had in connecting with the large number of Expendable stars present in the third movie it is a very real possibility that the handsome action-adventure actor will kill off some of the cast.
The buzz about his projects was enhanced when he was recently spotted leaving an Italian resaturant in Beverly Hills with "Reach Me" director John Herzfeld after having lunch which very likely included some talk about his future movies.
Fans of Sylvester Stallone can rejoice because he is returning his "Expendables" franchise to its R-rating roots in the next instalment of its franchise and quite possibly taking the franchise to a 'darker' side in 2015.
