There have been some really good movie franchises over the years and, while some were obviously going to go on to become hugely successful and spawn a number of sequels, some have actually been rather surprising successes. One such movie franchise, which we feel has been a surprising success, is the Shanghai movie franchise, which stars Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan.
Following the success of the first movie Shanghai Noon in 2000, the decision was made to go ahead and make the sequel Shanghai Knights, which hit the big screen in 2003. It was then suggested that we were going to get a third instalment of the franchise but, it has now been 13 years since the last movie, so are we ever actually going to see Shanghai Dawn being made?
Well, it seems that there has actually been some recent progress on the project, with the script supposedly coming along nicely for Shanghai Dawn, with the talented Aaron Buchsbaum penning the screenplay for the movie, while it was also announced a few weeks back, that the impressive director Jared Hess has agreed to come on board to helm the film.
With all that in mind, it should surely only be a matter of time before we see Shanghai Dawn moving into production. If we had to make a guess, we would say that production should start on Shanghai Dawn in the first half of 2017, with the movie then likely to have a release date for early in 2018. We will keep you posted on any official progress that the project makes though.
