When Robbie Williams left Take That in the 90s, there were a lot of people who question his decision, as Take That were at their peak at the time. However, Robbie then went on to become one of the biggest solo stars in the music industry, proving that he knew what he was doing all along. Which brings us to One Direction and Zayn Malik.
It is fair to say that One Direction are bigger that Take That ever were and have been the biggest boyband on the planet for many years now. So it did come as quite a shock when Zayn Malik decided to quit the boyband, claiming that he wanted to live a more normal life, before it was then revealed that he actually wanted to pursue a solo music career.
With the size of the fanbase that One Direction have, it was always going to be interesting to see whether the fans followed Zayn Malik on his solo journey or if they instead decided to boycott him for leaving the band. Well, Zayn has now released his debut solo album Mind of Mine, which has been met with a lot of positivity from the fans and critics alike.
With his new album receiving such praise, Zayn Malik has admitted that he was very surprised at how well people have taken to it, claiming that he could not quite get his head around it. With One Direction now on their official hiatus, it is going to be interesting to see how they all fair on their individual paths, but Zayn Malik has definitely set the early pace!
